The Netherlands

Inspired by the international conference ‘Child in the City’ (Brugge 2000) a Child Friendly Cities (CFC) initiative was launched in the Netherlands in March 2004. Within the initiative, a new project started in 2005 and involved main cities and villages of the country; the name of the project is “Kids Count” and it consists of an annual data collection which monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) at local level. Every year, a ranking list based on CFC indicators is published.
